Clean Sweep In Dublin At Last Black Belt Grading

Dublin a again on last Sunday played the venue to host the I.N.T.A. summer grading. We had four students including Mr. Alan Dunton, Mr. Cathal Mc Carthy, Brianna O'Mahony and Yvonne Murray going before the promotions committee of the I.N.T.A. which includes Master Brendan O'Toole 8th Degree, Master Val Douglas 7th Degree and Master Gerry Martin 7th Degree. The boys and girls presenting themselves for this grading had invested enormously in terms of time and effort and were successful in their quest of attaining black belt status for Brianna and Yvonne but in the case of Mr. Dunton and Mr. Mc Carthy the promotion to 3rd Degree black belt was an enormous accolade at their age.

Along with our own students I would also like to congratulate the other I.N.T.A. members who were successful on Sunday anad especially the students from our sister schools in Cork including Pat Forde from Passage West T.K.D., Olwen Lewis and Conor Lane from Togher School who have been consistently training with us for the past number of months, Michael O'Keefe, Ross and Naomi Christie, Aishling Walsh all from Jee-Goo and Brooklodge T.K.D. Schools and especially Mr. Denis Gannon from Trabeg T.K.D. School in Douglas on his promotion to 5th Degree black belt The summer Black Belt grading took place in the Taekwon-Do Center in Exchequer St. Sunday 20th June 2010.

We wish all the students and Instructors every success in their recent promotions.

Congratulations To The Fitzgibbon Brothers

The a 2010 ITF Taekwon-Do - ITA Irish Cup Championships took place on 29th & 30th May in Baldoyle. Over the weekend 374 competitors from 29 clubs representing ITA, RITA, INTA, TKDI, Red Star, Pulse, ETA and NITA competed for the title of ITA Irish Cup Champion. The standard was very high in patterns and sparring with some very large and competitive divisions. The event ran very well thanks to the many umpires who volunteered their time and expertise over the weekend and to the ITA Tournament & Umpire Committee who programmed and scheduled all categories on the five competition areas. The entire event ran like clockwork and finished on schedule at 2.30pm Sunday, which was a great achievement that was very much appreciated by the teams commuting from outside Dublin. The best clubs of the 29 competing were;

Our own John and Dylan Fitzgibbon took part in this event and again both exceled in their respective catagories with Dylan winning bronze in the Patterns Male, 14 - 17 Yrs Black Belt and gold in both Sparring Male, 59 - 63 kg and over 70 kg, Black Belt a field he tends to relish in.

Meanwhile John Fitzgibbon took silver in the sparring Male, 53 - 58 kg, Black Belt and again a great outing for him.

As always the competitive level from the rebel county was high with plenty of Ireland’s junior and cadet talent showcasing their skills. On behalf of Turners Cross Taekwon-Do Academy I would like to thank all the instructors, coaches, umpires, competitors and supporters for their part in a wonderful day of ITF Taekwon-Do in Dublin.

I was proud of both our members not only in the way they performed in the ring but the manner in which they conducted themselves outside and acted as true ambassadors for Turners Cross Taekwon-Do Academy.

Shaven Heads For Charity

Well done to Mr. Dylan Fitzgibbon and Colin Sheehan who along with their school mates helped to raise monies for charity. This involved students from Colaiste Chriost Ri shaving or colouring their hair and both Dylan and Colin opted for the shave. While raising money for charity the students also attempted to break the Guinness Book of records for the most shaved heads in one hour but narrowly missed out on their attempt. The Colaiste Chriost Ri boys have vowed to break the record next year and bring the accolade to lee side.

We were glad to support the lads and wish the the best in their efforts of breaking the record in the future and well done on helping charities in their spare time.

We would also Like to congratulate all the students in Colaiste Chriost Ri who contributed in the success of this venture and commend them for assisting local charities.

I would also ask that if you have any pictures that you would like to have included in the gallery please put them on a disc or e-mail them to me and I will be delighted to include them on our web site.

Congratulations To The National Team Members

I am delighted to announce that Mr. Dylan Fitzgibbon, Mr. Alan Dunton and Miss Sarah Bennett had a very successful trip to Sweden ahaving been selected as part of the National team to represent Ireland at the European Taekwon-do Championship in Skovde from April 30th to May 2nd 2010. This is a huge accolade indeed and comes after months of hard training and commitment which involved travel around Ireland to attend the national team training sessions. This was a great occasion for the two lads and Sarah and they did their club and country proud. Dylan was part of the junior pattern team and they progressed to medal status securing a bronze for their efforts.
Dylan also fought in the -63kg sparring individual section and with 29 countries involved had an uphill battle. He fought on with the courage of a lion. At 15 years of age Dylan fought 17 and 18 year olds from Scotland, Russia , Poland etc to eventually end up in the semi final and with all the professionalism he poses secured third place for a bronze medal.

Alan fought in the individual catagorie and again fought with the heart of a lion but was beaten in extra time by PaolandHe then went on to spar again with the male junior team but they were unsuccessful on this occasion.

Sarah had her baptism of fire in the Europeans with her first experience of international competition but again put on a very brave effort in both the individual and team events.
I am proud of both the lads and Sarah and have no doubt they will continue to be part of the success of the Irish team going forward.

It was along week in Sweden but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves very much. When tournament was finished people relaxed for the last night. Some went to the party and some just put their feet up and relaxed .What ever way people relaxed did not really matter as long as they had a very enjoyable time and we look forward to many more successful trips in the future . Once again I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members , parents and friends who supported the recent fundraiser's to make this trip possible for the two lads and let you know it is very much appreciated.
